CONCEPT BACKGROUND

What makes food experience so important?
As a foodie in real life, my life is always been surrounding by delicious food and friends. From my passion with food and my passive observation on people's behaviors on social media. People post their food pictures on social media on a regular daily basis and also meet up some friends due to new food trends.
With this in mind, I decided to explore a better way to enhance the sociability of food experience. To help people better express, capture, and share memorable moments more effectively.

USER RESEARCH

In order to better understand my users, I conducted several methodology researches to define the problems behind user behaviors. First, I did some online research on the demographics of content-based applications such as Facebook, Instagram, etc. The users of this type of applications like to post, share food content with friends and live a socialized life.

USER INTERVIEW

Second, I conducted multiple surveys with 20 people through email, Skype. The questionnaires were around the problems of dining experience with friends. From the interview, I found some pain points from these users, such as they have been annoyed by switching screen between yelp and message, have no idea of where to eat and what to eat.

When a user is choosing POI (Point of Interest), they need to go through several rounds of switching screen between yelp and message when discussing where to eat with their friends. The diagram shows us the process of choosing POI.

When the users select the final POI, they will need an extra effort to open a map application to lead to their destination. And they have to keep texting or calling to keep on track of their friend's status.

I used Principle prototyping tool to help me better understand the transition between screens. And also better to demonstrate the key actions when it comes to user testing for users.

LEARNINGS

The project had many challenges, but the most difficult piece was thinking from user perspectives, knowing what's the primary goal that need to accomplish. And I definitely loved iterating on designs and testings those new designs on users. Every feedback from my users would be a new improvement for my project. This tight feedback loop helped take ambiguity out of my designs, and it felt good to produce designs with the confidence that users would enjoy and understand it.
